Remember when I discussed the importance of considering/buying second-hand tech? The importance of it still stands, of course. But have you ever purchased a new laptop, phone, etc, and needed accessories for it? I know I did! Luckily for us, plenty of sustainable options to choose from. Obviously, you can purchase second-hand accessories from mainstream brands but if you're looking for options that are sustainable from the start, keep reading! Also, if you haven't checked out my post on second-hand tech, click here!
Nimble is a sustainable tech accessory brand that sells sustainable versions of our essential accessories such as phone cases, wireless and portable chargers, and USB cables. All of the products are designed in the US and ethically made in China. What I really appreciate about Nimble is their sustainability initiatives. For instance, for every product purchased, Nimble will recycle up to one pound of e-waste through their One-for-One Tech Recovery Program. They'll send you the envelope, and you can send one pound of old or obsolete electronics back to them for responsible recycling. Additionally, Nimble is a certified B Corporation and a member of 1% for the Planet.
Two of my most used products from Nimble are the charging pad, made from recycled bottles and organic hemp, and the 3-Day portable charger made from recycled aluminum and plant-based bioplastic. Both are perfect if you're looking to step up your charging game and/or needing something durable and portable. You can check them out here on EarthHero or use my discount for savings from their website!
What many of my followers don't know about me is that I was a phone case addict. I literally used to have a phone case to MATCH EVERY OUTFIT I wore. This was 100%, not a sustainable practice especially considering the materials used to make the cases, lack of eco-minimalism, and how the cases became useless to me if I decided to get a new phone. Flash forward several years and I still get a bit giggly when I get a new (aka new to me) phone. I get so excited to buy a new phone case in a bright color or pattern. What really excites me is that now I get to accessorize my phone sustainably thanks to Pela. Pela specializes in creating sustainable cell phone accessories (and sunglasses). These accessories include phone cases, screen protectors, cell phone grips, Air Pod cases, and Apple Watch bands. Personally, I have each of these accessories (except for the watchband).
The absolute best part about Pela is that all of these accessories are either compostable, completely zero waste, and/or made from recycled materials! Not to mention they have incredible durability, especially their phone cases. If you're thinking of making the switch to Pela (which you should because they're incredible), take advantage of their Pela 360 program. For every Pela case, they'll recycle your old plastic case through upcycling or converted into new Pela product. Want to get rid of an older Pela case but don't want to compost it? Send it back to Pela and they'll do it for you! Click here for a discount on your purchase and use code SHELBI for 15% off!
If you love to listen to music and you're in the market for sustainable music accessories, check out House of Marley. They have a variety of accessories such as headphones, earbuds, speakers, and even turntables. House of Marley is committed to creating and delivering quality sound and products made with post-consumer and upcycled materials. Additionally, for every HoM product purchased, they'll contribute to reforestation efforts through OneTreePlanted.org. Read more about HoM here!
Personally, I own their Rebel Blue Tooth Headphones made from bio-based plastics and polymers, and their No Bounds Waterproof Speaker made from recycled cork, aluminum, and silicone. You can find them on EarthHero and you can even use the code SHELBI10 for 10% off your purchase.
A Good Company is another sustainable brand making the effort to deliver sustainable accessories that fit your everyday life. They pride themselves in selling quality products made from plant-based and up-cycled materials at a fair cost. Additionally, A Good Company supports reforestation efforts in Zambia, Africa.
My favorite tech accessory from this brand is their 3-in-1 Charging Cord. This cord is perfect if you're like me and hate having cables for every single item. This cord features a Lightning cable, Type C, and Micro USB cable and is perfect for powering Apple, Samsung, and other devices. This cord is made from recycled nylon and plastic and can withstand some serious bending. If you do end up having some damage to it, don't worry because it comes with a lifetime warranty! You can find them on EarthHero and you can even use the code SHELBI10 for 10% off your purchase.
