Sustainable Socks

Updated: May 23, 2020

I don’t know about you but I used to hate getting socks as gifts. Boy was I wrong for under-appreciating them! Now if I receive socks as a gift, I’m over the moon! I’m in love with how comfy they are and especially love when they come in fun colors and unique designs! Here’s a list of my favorite socks!

Solmate Socks are known for their crew socks that come in fun color and quirky designs! They’re a USA based company that uses recycled cotton, recycled polyester, nylon, and lycra to create their products. The socks are also made from 100% pre-consumer recycled yarn and the company itself is zero-waste! I personally recommend the Saffron design because of the super bright colors!

Not only do these socks come in cool designs, but they also give back! Each pair of socks by Conscious Step is tied to a specific cause which inspires the design for the socks. When you purchase it, Conscious Step will make a donation to that organization! All of their socks are made using Fair Trade Certified and Vegan Certified cotton that is not treated with pesticides. I recommend these socks because they help protect the rainforests by donating $1 to Conservation International.

Maggie’s Organics has a wide variety of sock styles such as crew socks, knee high socks, and footie socks. All of the socks are made by a family owned and operated mill located in North Carolina and Alabama. They use USDA Certified organic wool purchased from small family farmers in Argentina. All of their products are latex and rubber free, are colored with dyes free of formaldehyde and heavy metals, and contain no animal byproducts. I recommend these Holiday crew socks because of how festive they are!

These crew socks by tentree are not only comfortable but they also have a positive impact on the environment. They are made from recycled plastic water bottles sourced from REPREVE. For every tentree product sold, the company also plants ten trees, hence the name. Also, you’re given a metal token to register and track your planted trees when you make a purchase! How neat is that! I recommend these crew socks because of the sleek colors and designs.

These Tacony Hemp socks from United by Blue are made using an eco-friendly blend of cotton and hemp. They are made responsibly in China and for every product sold, United by Blue removes 1 pound of trash from oceans and waterways. I recommend the Ultimate Bison Sock made from fibers that were destined for the landfill!

These socks by Osom Brand are made from 95% recycled textiles, effectively reducing the amount of wasted fabric out of landfills. Their upcycling process also requires no water or chemical dyes since the coloring comes from recycled clothing. I recommend these Aquila Hiking Socks because they are the cute, classic striped design we all know and love and they come in a beautiful blue color!

Pact is a clothing company that also specializes in developing sustainable socks. They have a variety of styles including crew, ankle, and footie socks! They use Certified Organic cotton which uses less water compared to conventional cotton. No inorganic pesticides are used in any of their cotton as well! As a holiday enthusiast, I recommend this Holiday Sock Box 3-pack!

Boody socks are made from bamboo fabric which is not only sustainable, but it helps provide a sturdy design to the sock and is perfect for those with sensitive skin! Also, itchy socks are the BANE of my existence. I’ve encountered many a pair that are so itchy, it forces me to go without socks for the day. However, these don’t because the bamboo fibers are super smooth and round, eliminating the sharp spurs which are responsible for the skin irritation. I recommend these hidden socks, especially if you’re into wearing flats or low cut shoes that don’t pair well with longer socks!

Thought is a UK based brand that also develops sustainable socks using bamboo. These socks are also anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and come in so many amazing prints! If you’re a fan of florals, I recommend this 4-pack Rosie Flowers set!

If you’re looking for an everyday sock then definitely look into Organics Basics! These socks are made from recycled wool and treated with Polygiene to help keep them fresh. They are also sustainably made in Portugal! If you are active or wear athletic shoes, I recommend these SilverTech Active Ankle socks!

These socks by People Tree are super soft and made from organic cotton. Plus they come in a variety of colors and designs. If you’re a fan of millennial pink or the classic striped sock, I recommend this pair!

Arving Goods develops a variety of socks in different styles and colors. They are made of a soft, thin fabric, that is also moisture wicking. These socks are made from upcycled cotton and recycled polyester. I recommend their classic casual sock as they come in a variety of colors and they are perfect for everyday wear!
